10th post!!!
I didn’t get to finish my second book, “The tenth Circle”, but that doesn’t matter since my book report is about the first book that I read, “Speak”. I really enjoyed both books, even though they both were about the cruel and hard topic, rape. I feel that it is important for this issue to be put into books to show what a horrible thing it is, and how much it can affect someone’s life. In both books the two girls who were rapped. They both had pretty normal lives, and started off happy and content. After they were raped, there lives went downhill. It is also good to talk about because if someone who was reading this book was raped, then they could relate to it and see how others deal with it. They also could see that they are not alone. In the “Speak” book, the main character who was raped didn’t tell anyone the whole school year, not ever her parents! This is why she had it so hard at school. It is an incredibly hard situation to deal with on your own, especially for only being 15. That is why people need to open up and share their problems when they are in needs of help. This story has taught me many valuable lessons.

9th post
Daniel is currently working on a comic book called The Tenth Circle, based on Dante’s Inferno, which his wife has always been interested in. Dante’s Inferno describes the nine levels of Hell, and similarly, Daniel’s comic shows his main character, Duncan, traversing those nine circles of Hell in order to rescue his daughter (Trixie). When afraid or in danger, Duncan will turn into some kind of animal, in order to escape or defend himself. He has no control over this, and he knows that each time it happens he becomes a little less human. His one fear, like Daniel’s, is that he will become someone his daughter will no longer recognize. The theme of what Dante considers to be a sin is also something that is focused on in the plot. The first circle of hell, according to Dante, is reserved for those who did not believe in or worship their god. There are 9 levels in total. These nine levels of Hell seem a bit ridiculous to me. I’ll read and find out more about them though! I guess drawing comic books can be a good way to vent about your problems.

People around the small town hear about the news that Jason Underhill has been charged with rape. It sweeps through the small town like wildfire! Jason is considered a golden boy, being the star hockey player, and the one with the bright and shining future, and a hockey scholarship just waiting for him. So, this is a major shock for everyone and lots don’t know exactly what to believe. Daniel Stone, Trixie’s father, is furious. Hearing the news that your daughter has been raped would make me really upset and angry also. For years, since he met Trixie’s mother, Laura, he’s been trying to control his temper, and hide his past of dealing with others who made fun of him where he grew up. Trixie has no idea that this gentle father of hers used to once be a dangerous rebel. This danger was what had attracted her father to her mother in the first place. I guess Trixie’s mom liked the bad boys! Daniel’s fear of becoming someone he doesn’t want to be, of his daughter not recognizing that person, comes through in his artwork, some of which is shown at the start of every chapter.

So, Trixie wants Jason back really badly. She is willing to do anything for him back. She decides to go to her friend Zephyr’s house with only intentions of flirting with everyone possible in order to make Jason jealous. At the party there was drinking and inappropriate behavior and “games” as they like to call them that were going on. The party seemed like one big hook up party. Trixie isn’t entirely comfortable with this, and drinks a little more than she intended to. Around the end of the night, she throws up. Then people go home except for Trixie, Zephyr, Moss (Jason’s friend, and Zephyr’s love interest), and Jason end up playing strip poker. After a few plays some more inappropriate things happen, as you would guess would happen with drunk teenagers and Zephyr and Moss end up upstairs. Trixie ends up crying in Jason’s arms in the living room. And that’s when it happens. That’s when he rapes her.
